Gerry Marsh Mayoral candidate in the 2010 election
Milton Voted 2010

Thanks to all who voted for me!

Congratulations to Mayor Gord Krantz and the elected councillors.

As Mayor I would have insisted on informed decision making by each member of council enabling them to vote in the best interests of the residents of the ward they represent and the town as a whole. This would have meant that I would have callenged staff recommendations, digged deep into proposed costs, properly assessed benefits and fully analyzed future consequences in terms of cost, environmental impact and the quality of life for Milton residents.

I would have challenged each councilor on their understanding of the proposal before them. I would have asked that cost benefit analysis be included for each proposal and in a format that was understandable.

I still feel that it is the role of council to provide direction to town staff, not the other way around.

In addition to current planning documents which outline areas designated as commercial, residential, etc. I still think Milton needs a more comprehensive vision statement. What exactly is the kind of town/city that Milton wants to be? What can be done to preserve the small town feeling of Milton and maintain a sense of community as we continue to grow? What steps need to be taken and what elements need to be included in future projects to achieve these goals?

Council needs to build a stronger vision statement with more specific guidelines for staff to follow so that Milton doesn't become just another GTA suburb.

I still think it is time that governments at all levels took more responsibility for how tax payers’ money is spent.

Let's see what happens over the next four years!
